Unusable after minimal play

I bought two of these boats, one blue and one yellow. Both of them are big disappointments. After three uses in the pool (no longer than half an hour) they are splitting and the varnish is wearing off. The yellow one is splitting in half where tha mast joins the boat, and the varnish is completely gone from the bottom. The blue one is developing cracks inside in the back, and the varnish is bubbling and peeling. They look old and funky now. I very selectively invest in quality wooden toys for my girl, and I take pains to treat the toys well. These boats were promptly removed from the pool, dried, and stored inside. You can imagine my heartbreak when I pulled them out to use again and discovered their condition. Perhaps the wood was not fully dry when the toys were made. Perhaps the varnish is not as durable because it is child safe. Whatever the case, if I saw these boats in a thrift store I wouldn?t even buy them.
