Cute, but not Musical
I was disappointed with this xylophone because when you play it it really just sounds like you are hitting wood, it does not really make musical notes. It would be quite safe for a baby to play with and bang on, but if you are looking for something that will actually sound like a xylophone, this would probably not be the one to buy.

Beautiful Toy
This is such a beautiful toy. If you are looking for a musical instrument, do not purhcase this. Our son received this for his first birthday and he likes to play with it. Each color makes a different "musical" sound. I think it will be great to teach colors.

Fun first instrument
While it may not play an octave, and may be a bit discordant, the sounds produced have an organic muted sound that is a nice alternative to the loud tinny and electronic noises of so many toys on the market today. My son has a lot of fun hitting the keys. It has offered him a great first experience with a musical instrument. Also, it is incredibly sturdy. I was worried when I first saw that the keys were suspended with chord, but he has crawled over it and stood on it numerous times and it still looks and functions like new.

We love this xylophone!
My daughter received this as a gift for her first birthday. She immediately began hitting the "keys" with the mallet and enjoys running the mallet up and down (making a "running" sound). She also turns the piece up-side down and uses it like a drum. The only thing I don't like is that she wants to walk around with the mallet, which makes me nervous (the end is rather blunt and seems like a hazard for her eye - or any other body part should she fall on it) so she now knows that she can only use the xylophone when she is sitting down. I like the quality, the color, and the sound, though!

Love this xylophone
Ok, it's a wooden xylophone for kids. No the tone isn't great. But it isn't terrible and to me that's not really the point. Most non-prodigal kids aren't playing "music" at this age anyway. My daughter LOVES this toy xylophone. Yes it's kind of loud and a little grating, but my daughter's eyes light up when she's playing her own "music". It's absolutely great. Maybe next year we'll get her a more "musical" metal xylo.
